The Madison County Medical Alliance currently has many projects, which includes supporting this year’s signature project, the North Alabama Medical Reserve Corp children’s obesity program, the Huntsville Hospital Mobile Medical Unit, Crestwood MCMA Teen Volunteer Award and the MCMA Medical Student Scholarship for a UAB Medical Student.
The Madison County Medical Alliance commits to a new "Signature Project" every 3-5 years. MCMA recently finished a three and a half year Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Project in which AEDs were placed throughout Madison County.
The citizens of Madison County responded overwhelmingly to the need for placing the life saving AED devices throughout our schools, park and recreation areas and churches. In all we placed, close to 100 AEDs, raised over $150,000 and trained hundreds of individuals in basic cardiac life support (BCLS).
We worked closely with our friends at the Madison/Marshall County American Red Cross who assisted with product selection, ordering equipment and BCLS training.
Our project was recognized locally at the "Touch of Red" Gala for the American Red Cross, in local papers, television and radio and of course, nationally recognized when Madison County was awarded the coveted "HAP Award" at the AMAA National meeting in Chicago IL.
All good things must come to an end; however, the adoption of our most current project, support of the North Alabama Medical Reserve Corps (NAMRC), looks to be an exciting endeavor.
